Few performers, like Bertrand Chamayou, can do justice to all three volumes of the Années de Pèlerinage. This "album of a traveller" (the original title of the undertaking) requires not only considerable technical means (with formidable pieces such as Après une lecture du Dante) but also, beyond the music alone, a sensitivity to the Lisztian project: to evoke the sublime of the Alpine landscapes, in the tradition of Sénacour's Obernann, but also to confront musical expressivity with the art of Raphael, Dante, Petrarch or Michelangelo. An aesthetic and musical challenge, and a loving tribute to art.
