Emigrant | Nadia Fabrizio

Carnia is the mountainous part of Friuli, a region in northern Italy, above Venice, in the province of Udine. The first time Nadia saw her father's homeland, there was nothing left, just a vast desolation. The earth had shaken and her father was taking her and her sister to see their grandparents for the first time since they had returned home from a life of emigration to Switzerland. She was just emerging from childhood. That evening, the choir of Ovaro, her village, was singing. Everything was shattered, but they were standing and singing.

As the daughter and granddaughter of immigrants, Nadia Fabrizio likes to present herself as a singing actress, because these are stories, short fables, sung tales, both intimate and universal. They bear witness in their own way to emigration, to uprooting. They also carry the words of those, women and children, who have remained in the country. She sings with what is in her unalterably attached to this valley, to these mountains, and to her "popolo duro".
