Polyphonies méditerranéennes

While Madalena is reborn thanks to the singers of the Pays d'Òc choir, A Filetta, Abdullah Miniawy and Peter Corser make the deep affinity between Corsican polyphony and Arab music on both sides of the Mediterranean resonate.

Madalena, a prayer in Occitan celebrating the forgiveness of sins, was an opportunity in the Middle Ages for the women of the Panier district of Marseille to show off their vocal talents... to the point that it was banned by the Church. Thanks to the choir composed exclusively of the new generation of female singers and musicians from the great country of Òc, Madalena is born again on a score inspired to Manu Théron by Occitan songs, Italian tarantellas, or the hadra-s of the Maghreb. The same thirst for encounter - jazz, Sufi singing and Corsican polyphony - drives the A Filetta ensemble, the Cairo singer Abdullah Miniawy, and the saxophonist Peter Corser. An evening where popular, spiritual or festive songs are (re)born, combining love and devotion in the same rebellious spirit. A project shared with Zutique Productions and La Vapeur Scène de musiques actuelles, as part of the Tribu Festival.
