Zylan ne chantera plus | Diana Soh

from 14 years

Zylan, a rising pop star, suspected of homo-sexuality, is arrested on his way to a wedding. This opera for a singer, on a terribly topical social issue, takes us on a journey of the sensitive, the dreamy and the human.

On stage, a single man is locked in a small room whose walls are covered with bars, like a cage. Three musicians accompany him on electric guitar, cello and percussion: halfway between opera and theatre, the score brings together words, song and music, to enter into the intimacy of emotions. A small form, performed by a new generation of artists, which aims to make opera accessible to all and to deal with essential societal themes, such as discrimination and homophobia. In the manner of Bertold Brecht's and Kurt Weill's didactic plays, the work resonates with everyone, and the audience can empathise with this poignant story: another facet of opera today.
