Jardin de l’Arquebuse – Jardin botanique

A historic garden like no other... for nature lovers, renovated in the spirit of the place, at the centre of contemporary issues of preservation of wild and cultivated biodiversity.

Put a little botany on your plate and in your glasses... by discovering the "Botanical garden of flavours and grape varieties, from the origins to tomorrow".

Today, at the Jardin de l'Arquebuse, nature has taste! In connection with the nearby Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin, the botanical garden is being reinvented to offer visitors a place devoted to plant biodiversity.
A botanical and sensory stroll where everyone is invited to better "consume nature". This tour, composed of 4 thematic squares, in the spirit of this French garden, gives the keys to understanding and choosing what we put on our plates...

The general layout of the garden remains the same, with its parterres lined with boxwood (Jardin à la Française). The new route, dedicated to plant foods, consists of four thematic squares. Visitors are invited to "put a little botany on their plate and in their glass! :
- Plant biodiversity, to discover the many wild and cultivated food plants, placed in their diversity.
- Travelling plants, to explore the paths of the plants that feed humanity.
- Tasty plants, to dive into the heart of plant molecules and discover their rich taste.
- Vital plants, for a healthy diet in a sustainable food system.

In the heart of Dijon, a historic winegrowing town located within the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne area, just a few hundred metres from the starting point of the Burgundy Grands Crus route, the Jardin de l'Arquebuse completes its offer with a trail dedicated to grape varieties where visitors can discover the diversity of winegrowing throughout the world: More than 400 vines of 70 different varieties are presented in the botanical squares, on the lawn known as Legouz de Gerland and finally, during 2023, on the pergolas on either side of the Petite Orangerie.

To improve the reception and orientation of the public, the signage has been redesigned and harmonised: the mediation supports along the discovery route are designed in harmony with the site and the elegant footbridge linking the station to the garden.

The botanical garden is also :
An arboretum, with a hundred or so species of local and exotic trees, near which flows a small stream, the Raines, which crosses the winding paths of this English-style park.

A rose garden with a thousand scents. A charming place for the delicacy and history of the varieties of old and modern roses presented, notably the "Gloire de Dijon".

... flower meadows, a rock garden, insect "hotels", a pond with a beautiful collection of birds, children's playgrounds, an open-air theatre... all mark out your route.
