"I won't keep any of my promises".
"In 2010, Jon Gnarr, a comedian, humorist and punk musician, was elected mayor of Reykjavik after creating a satirical party with a group of artists labelled "anarcho-surrealists". I was persuaded to write about it when I discovered that this novice mayor, who had put laughter at the heart of his decisions, had a very positive record in office". Faustine Noguès
Inspired by real events, this political comedy retraces the many twists and turns of an election campaign initially conceived as a hoax, then the mandate of the winners. Set against the backdrop of Iceland's economic crisis, we follow the journey of a group of punk artists who found "The Best Party" and end up at the head of the country's largest municipality.
Surprise Parti plays with both the rhetorical rules of political debate and the codes of stand-up comedy. In a festive, high-spirited rhythm, six actors whirl around and take it in turns to serve the twenty-one characters who tell the story of this campaign, rightly described as "surreal". With this show, Faustine Noguès, who also directs, gives pride of place to laughter and offers us the gift of a real "political party".
