On Thursday 19 December, Scène Fontainoise, in partnership with the town of Fontaine-lès-Dijon, invites you to a symphonic concert at the CAPJ by the Ensemble Orchestral de Dijon, conducted by Flavien Boy and featuring talented oboist Johannes Grosso.
Johannes Grosso is principal oboist with the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He is regularly invited to perform as principal oboist with Europe's leading orchestras and as soloist with renowned conductors such as Christoph von Dohnányi, Daniele Gatti and Gábor Takács-Nagy.
He will perform Concerto No. 1 in D minor for oboe and orchestra by Ludwig August Lebrun (1752-1790): a highly demanding work for the oboist, it is one of the highlights of the late eighteenth-century repertoire. A famous virtuoso oboist and composer of German origin, Lebrun travelled throughout Europe and spent a large part of his career in France. A contemporary of Mozart, he composed 14 concertos for his instrument (only 6 have survived) and other pieces for flute, violin and clarinet.
The EOD's programme also includes the following works:
- Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Op.62 (1807): the most famous of Beethoven's overtures for its expressive and dramatic power, and one of the most characteristic works in the composer's 'heroic' style.
- Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98 by Brahms (1884-1885): This last symphony, full of rhythm and lyricism, power and nostalgia, is characteristic of this musician of Germanic intimacy.
