Anatomia – un spectacle de Claudine Simon

Anatomia is a stage, sound and visual performance based around the exploration of a piano. It's an invitation to rethink the instrument, the way it's made and the way it's used today, and to seek to understand, again and again, the magic of this king of instruments.

The performance begins like a recital, with a piece by Franz Liszt. Then, in a slow drift, the work is altered: microphonic sensors placed inside the instrument reveal rough edges and amplify, focus and magnify the details of the sound for a very concrete sound exploration of the instrument. The original work is unravelled, perception is sharpened, and the nature of listening changes to get as close as possible to the sound source. The instrument itself disintegrates, its body opened up, dissected, rearranged and then exposed in space. The noisy sounds of destruction: impact, creaking, rubbing... are enhanced, musicalised and read as an attempt at language. And it is we, the audience, who now find ourselves as if inside this piano on the scale of a concert hall!
