Chœur de l’Opéra de Dijon, A White Christmas (in Jazz)

To welcome December, the Dijon Opera Choir and the Chœur Éphémère d'adultes join forces in a musical evocation of the American Christmas, shimmering and hedonistic. The concert continues in the foyer-bar of the Opéra for a festive Jam Session!

In 1954, Michael Curtiz, director of the immortal Casablanca, made a musical film entitled White Christmas, starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney. In the feverish post-war period, this story of former soldiers who are singers and whose success brings them into contact with two sisters who are as beautiful as they are talented, had everything it took to bolster the prevailing optimism. The title song, composed by Irving Berlin prior to the film, quickly became a classic and has been covered hundreds of times around the world. In this radiant and enchanted spirit, Anass Ismat and the Opéra de Dijon Choir have imagined a Christmas 'made on Broadway': accompanied by a jazz instrumental ensemble, the joyful fatalism of Let it snow is accompanied by the mischievousness of Sisters, while the traditional Jingle Bells, evoking the image of a sleigh gliding through the snow, resonate right into the heart of illuminated homes, where everyone is invited to create a 'merry little Christmas' with their loved ones. Celebrated, imagined, "little" or big, Christmas is not only a religious festival, but also an element of popular culture, as unifying and irresistible as choral music!
