"Stile antiquo o stile moderno
The "baroque", particularly in music, had already matured in Italy before spreading throughout Europe.
The organ in the church of St-Pierre in Dijon is the only "Italian Baroque" organ in Burgundy. Its sounds are clear and brilliant, evoking the sun, the landscapes and the songs of the peninsula.
On this exceptional instrument in the church of Saint-Pierre, organist Jean-Pierre Lecaudey has chosen to illustrate the baroque period from its origins in Italy at the beginning of the 17th century, then France at the beginning of the 18th century, and the Germanic countries at the end of the period in the middle of the 18th century.
- Girolamo Frescobaldi, Antonio Mortaro, Giovanni Gabrielli and Michelangelo Rossi are worthy representatives of the great musical centres such as Ferrara, Brescia, Rome and Venice that made Italy famous.
- Nicolas Clairambault belonged to the great French century, and was associated with the "Dames de St-Cyr" and the Parisian tribunes.
- Johann Sebastian Bach's genius marked the culmination and the end of this musical movement known as the "Baroque".
Jean-Pierre Lecaudey is an organist of international renown. He is regarded as one of the leading exponents of the French organ school. His passion for music has taken him to the greatest festivals in France, Europe and North America.
He has made numerous recordings, demonstrating his mastery of the classical, romantic and contemporary repertoire.
He plays the organ at St-Rémi de Provence and teaches at the C.R.R. in Avignon.
A regular at the Rencontres de Musique Ancienne de Seurre, he has recorded Nicolas de Grigny and François Couperin on the historic Julien Tribuot organ.
This concert is organised by "Les Amis des Orgues de Saint Pierre", in partnership with the "Rencontres de Musique Ancienne" festival in Seurre, with support from the city of Dijon and the "Fond pour le Développement de la Vie Associative".
