Henry Purcell's masterpiece of Baroque music, Dido and Aeneas, has been choreographed by Blanca Li for ten dancers, giving it a powerful incarnation whose intimacy reinforces its tragic beauty.
The love between Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, the future founder of Rome, has defined in the collective imagination one of the highest expressions of the tragedy of passionate love. Blanca Li's staging of this work, composed by Henry Purcell in 1689, is both contemporary and rooted in tradition, based on the version recorded by William Christie's Les Arts Florissants. In this modern chiaroscuro, the bewitching moiré reflections change according to the light. The protagonists diffract themselves as they move through a universe suspended between sky and water. In this way, Blanca Li completes the metamorphosis of this masterpiece into a sculptural, evolving and sensitive space.
