L'Arche in Dijon: an "out of the ordinary" medico-social establishment
L'Arche in Dijon, a member of the L'Arche Federation in France, has been welcoming mentally handicapped adults for over 30 years.
with mental disabilities. L'Arche homes are designed as family homes. They are warm places, where people feel at home, where life is shared between people with disabilities and people without disabilities (employees and young volunteers in Civic Service). Each person participates, to the extent of their abilities, in the tasks of daily life. The idea is to "live with" rather than "do for". L'Arche in Dijon accommodates 35 people with mental disabilities in 3 homes and a day care centre, enabling them to take part in a variety of activities (sports, art and craft workshops, outings, etc.).
