Joyeux Effroi

Philippe PEREZ examines our relationship with fear through representations that draw on a variety of sources, from horror film posters to Internet images and art history. All of which refer to a variety of popular and cultural sources. This syncretism reflects a world inhabited by the chance or calculated encounters that generate the representations that constitute our fears.

Fragments of different worlds rub shoulders with the absurd and the tragic, shifting our reference points from attraction to repulsion, from seduction to rejection. This posture of revealing and hiding through the use of fragments is contemporary to our societies, which are frightened by differences. The dread of a dark gaze set against the brightness of dissonant colours allows us to materialise the anguish that frees us from any narrative. Only our ability to identify certain elements can help us formulate certain associations.
