A forgotten Gothic masterpiece by Jules Verne, The Castle of Carpathia is reborn in an operatic musical theatre version directed by Émilie Capliez. A show that combines technology and the supernatural in a surprising and festive mix.
Dominating a Transylvanian village, Baron de Gortz's castle frightens the villagers. It is said that the ghost of La Stilla, a singer who died just before her wedding, has taken refuge there and is making strange appearances. When Franz, her former fiancé, sets off in search of the truth, he has no idea that he is about to come face to face with a mystery combining magic and science... Jules Verne has fun in this novel, which alternates between thrills and rational explanations. In the same spirit, Émilie Capliez gives the novel a range of spectacular visual effects, using video to stage the enigmatic ghost, while jazz composer Airelle Besson underpins the story with a score that combines mystery, gentleness and suspense.
