Composer Othman Louati and director Johanny Bert set out to rediscover the film Wings of Desire in a lyrical show: a highly poetic visual and aural performance combining puppets, electronic music, instrumental ensemble and choir.
In the heart of the divided Berlin before the fall of the Wall, film-maker Wim Wenders takes us on a nostalgic wander through the eyes of two angels, Damiel and Cassiel, who have come to listen to the inner voices of the lonely and distraught inhabitants. Othman Louati and Johanny Bert, along with author Gwendoline Soublin, have taken this already highly operatic material and created a new, immersive and plural genre, combining puppetry and music. It's a way for the Miroirs Étendus opera company to revisit an essential piece of cinema on stage, tackling the operatic canons to confront them with the challenges of the other arts.
