On Thursday 8 February at 8pm at the CAPJ in Fontaine-lès-Dijon, Scène Fontainoise invites you to a concert by the duo "Cordes et Âmes", made up of Sara Chenal on violin and Olivier Pelmoine on guitar, devoted to popular Spanish songs.
Their vibrant, sensual playing, combined with perfect mastery of their instruments, and their obvious complicity, communicative with the audience, are all elements that contribute to the alchemy of this surprising duo, created in 2001... who have embarked with art and enthusiasm on a made-to-measure repertoire, combining improvisation and original transcriptions: music from all times and all horizons, ancient, classical, contemporary, music from Eastern Europe, South America or Spain.
"Canciones Españolas": The violin-guitar duo is perfectly suited to the character of this music, which is by turns poetic, haunting, frenzied and always colourful.
The programme for this concert includes 'Canciones' by Pablo de Sarasate, Fernando Sor, Miguel Llobet, Manuel de Falla, Maurice Ohana and Gilbert Clamens (b. 1939), 'Suite d'e'te' by 'die'e for the 'Cordes et Âmes' duo.
The performers:
- Sara Chenal: awarded first class honours for violin at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon in 2003, Sara Chenal completed the advanced violin course at the Rotterdams Conservatorium and the chamber music course at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
A member of the Dijon Opera from 1996 to 2001, she then turned her attention to a career as a soloist and chamber musician: first as part of a string and piano trio, then with guitarist Olivier Pelmoine. The "Cordes et Âmes" duo, winners of the Mauro Giuliani International Competition in Bari and supported by the Société Générale sponsorship programme, have given nearly 250 concerts with the Jeunesses Musicales de France.
Since 2006, she has been 1st violin in the Sine Qua Non string quartet, of which she is a founding member, and frequently plays in other chamber ensembles.
Invited as soloist or solo violin in orchestral ensembles, she is also involved in contemporary music.
Sara Chenal teaches violin and chamber music at the Conservatoire de Paris 9ème.
- Olivier Pelmoine: An eclectic concert artist, Olivier Pelmoine has carved out a personal path for himself, drawing on a wealth of experience. Fascinated by the guitar since childhood, he plays blues-rock in his native Hautes-Alpes. His thirst for learning led him to discover classical music, which he studied in depth at the Dijon Conservatoire, before devoting his postgraduate studies to the Ecole Normale and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, where he won the highest distinctions.
In recitals, as a duo or in various chamber music formations, he has performed in France in prestigious venues.
His meeting with violinist Sara Chenal, with whom he founded the 'Cordes et âmes' duo, was a turning point for both performers.
Artistic director of the 'Guitares à Dijon' festival, he founded the 'Cordes d'Or' association in 2013 to promote the instrument in all its facets in Burgundy. The festival celebrated its 10th anniversary from 19 to 21 January 2024 with concerts and master classes at the Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne and the Cellier de Clairvaux.
A qualified art teacher, he has been teaching guitar since 2009 at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Dijon and the Ecole Supérieure de Musique de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
