THE MUSICAL CANVASES
"Alfred Manessier, painting the light
Conception and interpretation: Bertrand Coynault, piano

- A journey through the work of Alfred Manessier, whose paintings can be seen in the Dijon Museum
- A sensory experience at the heart of art
- The dialogue between music and painting for an innovative and popular approach to recital:
Augmented by a video part, it allows the spectator to plunge into the heart of the master's paintings and to reveal their unsuspected details. The camera movements are defined by the score and respond to the rhythms and harmonies. The whole is constructed like an opera where the works of art are both the sublime setting and the main characters. The dramaturgy of the recital thus echoes that of the paintings:
- From the lights of the Bay of the Somme to abstraction [1920-1990)
- Spirituality and lights of Spain [1958-1966)

The musical programme is built around Preludes by Claude Debussy, Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin, a Partita by Jean-Sébastien Bach, Evocation by Isaac Albeniz and Manuel de Falla's Danse rituelle du feu:

Bertrand Coynault
Bertrand Coynault has been immersed in classical music since he was a child and at the age of 13 he won the Steinway & Sons competition. It was undoubtedly his encounters with the concert artists Marie-Josèphe Jude and Elena Varvarova that encouraged him to embark on a career as a soloist. Trained by the Russian school, he stands out for his audacious programmes and natural lyricism. Chopin, Debussy, Ravel and Scriabin are among his favourite repertoire.
Anxious to bring a total vision of art to the public, he created in 2016 his show Les Toiles Musicales, a real journey to the borders of art where music and painting dialogue.

Alfred Manessier
Alfred Manessier, born on 5 December 1911 in Saint-Ouen and died on 1 August 1993 in Orléans, was a French non-figurative painter, considered one of the masters of the New School of Paris.
Manessier's pictorial work is multifaceted: in addition to surrealism, cubism and abstraction from the Second World War onwards, he also produced landscapes and works of sacred art, notably for stained glass projects.
Manessier also produced a significant number of works in the category of multiples: etchings, lithographs, serigraphs... In particular, he used lithography extensively as a preparatory stage for his tapestry projects.
