Nature morte -Still Life

In 1884, the writer Joris-Karl Huysmans wrote À rebours, a fascinating work considered to be the bible of the decadent spirit. Its hero, Des Esseintes, has nothing but contempt for society and its materialism. He has retired to a house on the outskirts of Paris with a few meticulously chosen works of art, and tries to live like a hermit, "backwards", but his new world eventually eludes him... Drawing on this novel, Violaine Fimbel extracts the fantastic potential of the work to create a hallucinatory theatre.
In an atmosphere reminiscent of a cabinet of curiosities, the character is surrounded by strange animals, disturbing plants, a perfume organ and paintings that change over time.
Violaine Fimbel uses magic, puppetry and special effects to plunge us into a cinematic atmosphere that engages all our senses. She offers us a visual, olfactory, auditory and thermal experience that sucks us into a dizzying vortex.
