Renaud Capuçon & l’Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne

Arvo Pärt's masterpiece, Tabula rasa synthesises his evolution from serialism to the "tintinnabuli" style that was to make him famous. Based on a dialogue between the orchestra and a group of two violins and a prepared piano, it is undoubtedly part of the legacy of the Baroque concerto emblematised by Bach. Like Vivaldi, the 'Cantor' adopted the 'vif-lent-vif' form, contrasting solos and orchestral ritornellos, but infusing them with the density of writing, dynamic complexity and admirable cantilenas that are uniquely his own. A great admirer of Bach, Mendelssohn nevertheless dedicated the most joyous and bouncy of his symphonies to the Roman light, in which the elegiac and meditative shadows are finally swept away by an irresistible tarantella.
