Requiem(s)

In Requiem(s), the nineteen dancers directed by Angelin Preljocaj give flesh and substance to some of the most beautiful pages of religious music:
A deeply moving choreographic meditation on life and death.

Angelin Preljocaj's new choreography is built around a musical form that has long summed up a certain Western relationship with death. Yet far from being a funeral liturgy, the dancers in Requiem(s) use this form, in which countless composers have distinguished themselves, to deliver a veritable choreographic requiem, in which the musical works should appear in a contrasting combination, giving pride of place to sound creations with contemporary atmospheres. Introspective rather than solemn, this new work explores feelings of loss, but also those of joie de vivre, contrasting the idea of finitude with the exuberance and movement of the body. It's a contemporary work concerned with the disappearances of our ecological crisis, but one that sees in death the resurgence of the miracle of life.
