Les tontons flingueurs
It all begins on the night of a festival in Angoulême. Erik Truffaz was asked to play some film music.
Soundtracks are a tricky business for a musician. They are the skin of films, their indistinct soul. So Truffaz delved into his memories as a film buff, lover and child to create this tribute to jazz and the film it illuminates.
For Rollin & Clap, Erik Truffaz and his long-time sidekick Marcello Giuliani have put down on paper an ideal theme tune. Here, in addition to trumpet and bass, the band is joined by the drums of Raphaël Chassin, the keyboards of Alexis Anérilles and the guitar of Matthis Pascaud. A feast of composers including Nino Rota (La Strada), Miles Davis (Ascenseur pour l'échafaud), Ennio Morricone, Alain Romans and Jacques Tati, Erik Truffaz's group frees the pieces from their original function.
They are no longer scores subjected to images, but miniature films that extend beyond the story.
From the outset, Erik Truffaz has worked with bassist Marcello Giuliani.
