Sols, la vie sous nos pieds

We live on the surface, but beneath our feet, this unsuspected universe is an immense reservoir of biodiversity: animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, viruses... most of them invisible to the naked eye!

Suitable for all ages, the new exhibition at the Jardin de l'Arquebuse invites visitors to discover and understand the importance of soil biodiversity. What you know about soil, and what you do with it, is likely to be turned upside down when you visit this exhibition!

The exhibition is divided into four sections:
- An ignored world
The soil we walk on every day, the foundation of our homes and all our infrastructures, is also the essential substrate for our food, and in its depths it houses the archives of human life and history; it is also the source of our water and gold.
- A "kingdom" of the living
Far from being an inert material, soil is a fundamental component of ecosystems and the largest reservoir of biodiversity on Earth, even though we know less than 10% of the organisms that live there!
- Vital functioning
Without the activity of soil organisms and their interactions, the world as we know it would not exist! A living soil is as important as the air we breathe and the water we drink.
- Our common heritage
At a time when soil degradation is accelerating due to the many pressures exerted by human activities, taking care of the soil is an opportunity to live better now and preserve our common heritage for future generations.
