Open to the public every year during its emptying and maintenance phase, the Darcy garden's water reservoir is an unusual place to visit!
A little historical reminder
175 years old, this emblematic place of Dijon is still in activity, the city has reused this reservoir to recover runoff water and allow the watering of the grassy parts of the tracks of the tramway of Dijon.
The reservoir is named after the engineer Henry Darcy, who began designing the reservoir in 1838. He had thought about how to bring water to the city of Dijon by building a 12 km long pipe from the Rosoir spring in the Val Suzon to Dijon.
In 1840, the reservoir was supplied with 7,000 litres of water per minute. This made the city of Dijon the best supplied with drinking water after Rome. In 1847, drinking water was supplied to every floor of Dijon's buildings.
