Square des Bénédictins

This square is located on the edge of the Saint-Bénigne cathedral. It is the only vestige of the important gardens that accompanied the former abbey of Saint Bénigne, founded in the 6th century. The church and the buildings of the monastery - of which the abbot's residence and the old cellar remain - were established in the heart of a vast enclosure, including the cloister garden, the orchard and the vegetable garden. All that remains of this garden is a well. Rearranged in 1977, the square is shaded by chestnut, lime, maple, birch and poplar trees.
