La Nuit des musées à Dijon 2023

For the 19th edition of the European Museum Night, the 5 museums of Dijon: the Fine Arts Museum, the Rude Museum, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Sacred Art and the Museum of Burgundian Life, will open their doors on 13 May from 8pm to midnight with cultural proposals that are as rich as they are surprising!

Marc Desgrandchamps: two new acquisitions for the Musée des Beaux-Arts
In 2022, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon acquired two paintings by Marc Desgrandchamps, presented to the public for the first time in the exhibition Silhouettes. The artist has brought together images, scenes, characters and settings from various sources, based on the principle of film editing.

The Dijon School of Drawing
Thanks to the determination of the painter François Devosge, a school of drawing opened in Dijon in 1766. Its aim was to train young artists to "encourage the arts and industry". Based on the model of the Parisian Royal Academy, the teaching was founded on drawing, "the soul of all the arts". The school's collection was bequeathed to the Dijon Museum and forms the basis of its exceptional collection of graphic arts.

The Anthony family portraits by P.P Prud'hon
Prud'hon painted these two portraits in gratitude for the hospitality offered to him by the Anthony family during his exile in Franche-Comté at the end of the 18th century. Abandoning the tradition of ceremonial portraits, the artist delivers two striking portraits of his friends, imbued with realism and pre-romantic sensitivity.

The Gaulin Room, an example of neoclassicism in Dijon
Made around 1780, this woodwork decoration comes from a private mansion dismantled at the beginning of the 20th century, on rue Pasteur in Dijon. The work of the cabinetmaker and sculptor Jérôme Marlet, this ensemble bears witness to the antique influences in the decorative arts at the end of the Age of Enlightenment.

Simone Boisecq's The Great Watchman (1984-1985)
The museum recently welcomed the generous donation of thirty-eight sculptures by the artist couple Boisecq-Longuet. Come and discover Simone Boisecq's imposing Grand Veilleur, a plaster cast built by a series of geometric volumes which, as its name suggests, seems to watch over the surrounding works.

The class, the work! What's your blaze?
As part of the artistic and cultural education scheme La classe l'œuvre !, a class of 5th graders from the Roupnel secondary school worked on the theme of the Golden Fleece and the coat of arms. Initiated by their Spanish language teacher, the pupils were able to make the link between the Dukes of Burgundy and Spain through the Golden Fleece, a symbol still worn today by the King of Spain. They were then able to create their coat of arms in an art workshop and will present their work to you during the evening.

The chimeric animal
On the occasion of the "La classe, l'œuvre!" scheme, Mrs Castello's CE2 class from the Chevreul primary schools worked on the theme of the chimeric animal and metamorphoses in the museum's collections. Over two workshop sessions, the pupils individually imagined a chimera in front of an abstract setting, created using graphics and paint.

The class, the work! - The ancient mosaic
"An assembly of stones that belongs to the Muses": this was the expression used by the Greeks and Romans to designate this type of decoration. Let yourself be guided by the pupils of CE2 from the Ecole du Nord de Dijon to discover this decorative technique and admire their mosaic creations here gathered in a collective work.

► Concerts
Music for two - A viol and a violin in 17th century England
The Duo Coloquintes draws on the virtuoso repertoire of the English virginalists, and offers unpublished transcriptions of this repertoire originally written for keyboard. Almost all of the works chosen are taken from a compilation, the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. This book, kept in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, contains almost three hundred pieces of music written by different authors to be played on a virginal at the Elizabethan Court and later at the House of Stuart. The diversity and quality of the works inspired the duo to transcribe them and discover new colours.

Jazz concert
At the Bloc, we love constraints, especially when they are magnificent like the cloister of the Musée de la Vie bourguignonne. Programming two acoustic sessions in such a place becomes a pure pleasure. So here are two times, three movements. The first is a time for hitting. Adrien Desse is a drummer and perfectly capable of playing solo. Better still, solo, creating sonic and rhythmic architectures where you could lose your mind trying to decipher what is being played. This 20-minute solo avoids all the pitfalls of technical demonstration to wander without trembling on the terrain of an inventive and generous music. The second part is a duo. Violin and clarinet, Clément Janinet and Elodie Pasquier. The music they play together is instinctive, voluble and of a precision that would only have the joy of doing as its equivalent.
