Following on from the art history courses it has been offering for several years, in 2025 the Consortium Museum is introducing a new teaching format: "Leçons d'artiste". This new series of courses will give artists the opportunity to tell the story of their discipline, using a scholarly and subjective approach informed by their own influences and sensibilities. It's an opportunity to produce new narratives, exploring the history of art through the eyes of those who practise it.
These meetings, held in the Consortium Museum's projection room, are open to all. Each course focuses on a specific artistic discipline. Participants can attend the whole cycle or sign up for the sessions of their choice.
Hugo Pernet will lead the first session dedicated to painting (Saturday 22 March, Saturday 5 April and Saturday 17 May 2025). Born in Paris in 1983, Hugo Pernet is a French painter and poet living in Dijon. He graduated from the École régionale des beaux-arts de Besançon in 2006, and has exhibited at institutions including the MAMCO in Geneva and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. His work can be found in public collections, including the Cnap, the Frac Bourgogne and the Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon.
A History of Painting by Hugo Pernet #1 - "Sleeping Soldiers
Saturday 22 March 2025 from 4 pm to 6 pm
This first course will begin with a study of a detail from the Issenheim Altarpiece, painted by Matthias Grünewald between 1512 and 1516: a scene depicting the sleeping soldiers guarding Christ's tomb during the Resurrection, the starting point for an analysis of pictorial representation that will extend to other interpretations of enchantment in painting.
"Through my recent discovery of hypnosis, I will attempt to establish a parallel between the mechanisms of the work of art and those of 'animal magnetism', described for the first time in modern science by Doctor Mesmer, from the point of view of the beginner." - Hugo Pernet
