Ambregris

Ambergris: "a fragrant substance derived from the intestinal concretions of sperm whales which, when discharged, float on the surface of the sea; very precious perfume extracted from this substance" definition, Le Robert

Patrick Sims, founder of the company Les Antliaclastes, has been practising the art of puppetry for several decades, a passion that stems from his training in film and animation at Middlebury College, USA.

Perhaps this preamble will shed some light on what Ambregris, the show, is all about? First of all, it's a story about Pinocchio, and, as you can imagine, we're inspired by the figure of this little character: it's a tale about transformation, about a wooden puppet who (usually) becomes a young boy...
Next, Ambregris takes up residence in the cetacean's digestive system, which has become a sort of giant perfume laboratory. Inside, a nose officiates, a perfumer obsessively searching for the perfect block of ambergris to complete his olfactory masterpiece.
If, in the process, you also meet the prophet Jonah (swallowed by the whale for disobeying God), and Captain Ahab haunted by Moby Dick, don't be too surprised; just let yourself drift in the middle of the sea and be carried away by this surprising alchemical operetta...
