Let's take to the roads of Eastern Europe to kick off 2024 with a concert at the crossroads of musical sounds and cultures! Symphonic power and authenticity merge in an irresistible whirlwind of popular jubilation, trance and elegance.
It was under the aegis of classic world music that the Sirba Octet, formed around the traditional repertoire of Eastern Europe, decided to join forces with the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne and balalaika virtuoso Alexeï Birioukov. The result is an unprecedented and explosive encounter of sounds, practices and cultures, driven by the combination of orchestral sound and traditional instruments. Through the magic of Cyrille Lehn's arrangements, timeless classics such as Les Yeux noirs, Kalinka and Le Temps du muguet take on new colours, literally reinvented for our ears. As for the spirit that prevails, it's obviously that of a popular festival, radiating with the energy of Russian, Romanian, Hungarian, Moldavian, Gypsy and Klezmer melodies, not forgetting the essential self-mockery that is typical of Jewish humour. Dance reigns unchallenged, yet between the plucked strings of the balalaika, ardour and passion sometimes give way to the most moving melancholy.
