The Dijon Opera Choir performs songs from medieval Muslim Spain, the mouachahat. A landmark concert, proof of the permanent and fruitful exchanges between East and West.
The 'mouachah' refers to a leather belt decorated with precious stones. But in the plural, this term becomes the prerogative of a musical repertoire created from the tenth century on classical Arab poems from Andalusia, based on Middle Eastern melodies: the word itself testifies to the reciprocal influences between the regions bordering the Mediterranean. In strophic and repetitive form, alternately panegyrics or love songs, these pieces with varied rhymes follow a complex structure and are characterised by virtuoso rhythmic work. For this new edition of the festival Les Nuits d'Orient, the Dijon Opera proposes to bring together multicultural know-how, in order to meet the fundamental objective of these artistic encounters.
